Part Time – Albany, NY Reform synagogue seeks director for our Sunday-only Religious School program of 60+ students. The director is on site Sundays and attends other school related events. Candidate should have experience in Jewish and/or secular educational settings and strong organizational skills. The director recruits, supervises, and mentors faculty and aides; oversees curriculum; schedules classes; coordinates special events; implements school policies; maintains budget and payroll data. 15 hours per week, 48 weeks per year.
Under the oversight of the Rabbi, who functions as the Director of Education, and the Religious School Committee, the Religious School Director performs the following functions and is expected to be present during Religious School from opening to closing (8:30 AM to 1:15 PM) and to attend Religious School Committee meetings, class services and other school related activities. Salary based on average of 15 hours per week for 48 weeks per year.
Supervisory
Ensuring a positive and safe learning environment
Recruiting and overseeing teachers and aides
Planning and implementing staff development activities and ongoing training
Providing advice and support to teachers
Making regular classroom observations and lesson plan review to aid in instructional improvement and programmatic consistency
Implementing school policies including attendance and conduct
Establishing and overseeing communication with parents, regarding expectations of achievement, academic progress and family involvement
Planning and holding faculty meetings as needed
Managing student enrollment
Curriculum
Assisting Rabbi and Religious School Committee in designing a sequential, articulated curriculum that reflects desired learning outcomes based on temple policies and tenants of Reform Judaism
Designing and overseeing special programs, including family and parent education and Camp Eisner Retreat
Evaluating curricular materials for relevance and appropriateness
Researching and developing new resources to enhance curriculum
Overseeing the provision of services to students with special needs according to their established Individual Education Plans
Administrative
Creating schedules and allocating space for all religious school classes and activities, and updating as necessary
Creating and updating the Handbook for Parents of Religious School Students
Researching and applying for funding opportunities to enhance school resources
Arranging for substitute coverage as needed
Maintaining time sheets for Religious School personnel and transmitting to the
Treasurer
Reviewing report cards and arranging distribution
Providing information for preparation of budget
Developing and maintaining Religious School inventories of supplies, materials, texts, equipment, etc.
Approving purchases of supplies and materials
Implementing and enforcing religious school's attendance policy
Overseeing tzedakah program
